GAIA

For this project, we partnered with GAIA , a decentralized platform where AI applications can grow, learn, and improve over time. I’m still not entirely sure what that means, but here we are.

We were originally slated to produce six videos showcasing their service, but — in classic fashion — the client’s budget got cut, so we delivered a third of the vision, with all the polish.

The scenes were built and animated in Cinema 4D, then composited in After Effects. I handled animation and compositing for video one, took on full design, animation, and comp for video two, and juggled rendering across multiple workstations for both.

Process & Exploration

We had an extensive exploration phase for the first video. The script was ambiguous with its representation of the cold AI/Tech world and the new, flourishing world under GAIA. So we needed the room to visually figure things out.

Video two’s experience was a little less luxurious. We had just under a week of production time, which meant I had a day to lock in the look before diving straight into animation.

Fortunately, the scripts were fairly straightforward, so we skipped storyboards entirely and jumped right into 3D animatics, one of the few silver linings of a tight deadline.
